How SAP Fits into Norwegian Electronic Invoicing

Many Norwegian companies run finance, sales and procurement in SAP, while their customers expect invoices in a structured electronic format. Public bodies in Norway have required e-invoices for years, and a growing number of private buyers now ask for the same. Linking SAP with an e-invoicing service lets invoice data leave your ERP in the right format without manual re-entry.

Advintek maps SAP billing and accounts payable data to EHF and Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, the format used across Norway. Please confirm your own legal duties with the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten), the Agency for Public and Financial Management (DFØ) or your accountant.

SAP Integration Capabilities for Norway

Outgoing Invoice Export

Send billing documents from SAP and convert them to EHF-ready files for Norwegian customers and public agencies.

Peppol Delivery

Route invoices through the Peppol network using the receiver’s registered identifier, so documents arrive without email attachments.

Incoming Invoice Capture

Receive supplier e-invoices and pass the structured data to SAP for posting and approval.

Norwegian VAT Mapping

Carry the MVA rate and tax category from SAP into each invoice line, including 25%, reduced rates and zero-rated or exempt supplies.

Credit Note Handling

Generate credit notes that reference the original invoice so corrections follow the same electronic route.

Compliant Storage

Keep invoices in their original electronic form for the retention period set by Norwegian bookkeeping rules.

Raise SAP Invoice Accuracy with Automated Checks

  • Confirm the seller’s organization number and MVA registration appear on every invoice.
  • Store the customer’s organization number in the SAP business partner record.
  • Match each SAP tax code to the right Norwegian MVA category.
  • Add a buyer reference or order number when the receiver requires one.
  • Mark reverse charge supplies with the required note.
  • Validate each file against Peppol rules before it is sent.
  • Keep every sent invoice in its original, unaltered form.

Turn Your SAP Billing Run into a Connected Workflow

An invoice in SAP passes through posting, conversion, delivery, acknowledgement, payment and storage. When these steps are connected, finance teams type less, fix fewer errors and see the status of every invoice in one view.

Advintek supports connected workflows for SAP landscapes used in Norway. Please confirm which SAP versions, interface methods and delivery channels apply to your setup before go-live, and review current guidance from Skatteetaten and DFØ.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can Advintek connect SAP to Norwegian e-invoicing?

Yes. Advintek supports connecting SAP billing and payables data to EHF and Peppol delivery. The exact interface depends on your SAP version and landscape, so a short technical review is recommended before deployment.

Advintek can work with common SAP environments, including SAP S/4HANA (cloud and on-premise), SAP ECC, SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign. The connection method, such as IDoc, OData/API, file exchange or SAP Integration Suite, depends on your version and setup, so confirm it in a technical review.

EHF (Elektronisk Handelsformat) is the Norwegian e-invoicing format. Current EHF invoices are based on Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, which follows the European standard EN 16931. Peppol is the network that delivers these documents between sender and receiver.

Norwegian public bodies require electronic invoices and do not accept paper or PDF invoices by email. In practice, Peppol is the standard delivery channel. Check the current rules with DFØ or the buyer before you start sending.

Each SAP tax code is mapped to the matching Norwegian MVA category on the invoice line. This covers the standard rate (25%), reduced rates such as 15% for food and 12% for certain services, and zero-rated or exempt supplies. Rates and rules change, so verify them with Skatteetaten or your accountant.

Yes. Incoming EHF invoices can be received through Peppol, read as structured data and passed to SAP for matching, approval and posting. The original structured file is kept as the source document.

Credit notes created in SAP are converted to the Peppol credit note format and sent through the same route as invoices. Each one references the original invoice number so the buyer can match and adjust the tax amounts.

The file is checked against Peppol rules before sending. If a field is missing or wrong, such as the organization number, buyer reference or tax category, the error is flagged so it can be fixed in SAP and resent. This avoids rejections on the receiver’s side.

Under the Norwegian Bookkeeping Act, accounting documentation generally has to be kept for five years after the end of the financial year, and some records longer. Invoices should be stored in their original electronic form and stay readable. Confirm the exact period with your accountant or auditor.

Book a demo and share your SAP version, invoice volume and customer types. Advintek will review your setup, confirm the interface and delivery options, and propose a plan for testing and go-live.
